Visual Journalist + Writer
Hi.
Mónica Subietas (Barcelona, Spain, 1971).
Writer, journalist and editorial designer based in Zurich (Switzerland).
I was born in Barcelona, the city of marvels, where everything is possible. So I had a good start!
At the age of 7, Enid Blyton made me dream of becoming a writer, and I was 13 when Lou Grant discovered Journalism to me. Already at University, I got passionate for publications design.
I could not make up my mind, so I decided to do all: first I got my degree in Journalism and a postgraduate degree in Reporterism at the Ramon Llull University in Barcelona. After that, I attended an Editorial Design course at the School of Visual Arts in New York City. And finally, at 36, I dared to start my first novel –a latent vocation, due to my parents well meant advice: “yeah, writing novels is a cool thing to do, but you better look for a job: one cannot make a living out of writing fiction”.

Today I do not live anymore in the city of marvels, but I have learned to juggle with my three profiles: Communication is all of the above, in the end. And Communication is just my thing.
